Who we are
The ‘Runnymede’ brand was derived from the Andaman seafront heritage building, known as the Runnymede Hotel, along the historic Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, better known as the Millionaire’s Row in George Town, Penang.
Originally built in 1808 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, the residential building was named Runnymede, after the field on which King John of England signed the Magna Carta. In 1901, the residence tragically caught fire and was burnt to the ground. The residence was then rebuilt in 1903 by two Scotsmen, W. Foster and H. Parker, which was subsequently converted into the Runnymede Hotel. The Runnymede Hotel became one of the only two grand hotels in Penang at the time with large grand ballroom that opened to the lawns which held balls, cocktails and dinner dances regularly for the elite and dignitaries. The hotel represented great hospitality, symbolised national pride and stood as a significant landmark in Penang through the test of time.

What we do
Runnymede represents a resourceful group of people with a resilient spirit that are dedicated to creating refined and refreshing developments with radiant appeal, garnering reliable results. We believe that this sets the new benchmark for the market.
Today, the Runnymede Group in partnership with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, will restore the Runnymede Hotel to its former glory, as it used to be in the early 1900s.
