Tan Sri has always been a visionary in seeing both the big picture and understanding the importance of details. He was appointed as the Director General of the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department from 1989-1991. The EPU is responsible for the planning of the country’s development programme. Thereafter, he went on to serve as the Secretary-General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance for 3 years up to 1994. From 1994, Tan Sri served as the Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, a position he held for 9 years.
After serving an illustrious career with the civil service,
Tan Sri retired in 2003 and was appointed to the board of several notable companies including Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, PLUS Malaysia Bhd and Scientex Berhad. He is also the President of the Malaysian Economic Association and a trustee of the Yayasan UEM Board, a foundation involved in education. Formerly, he also served as the Chairman of the Malaysia Institute of Economic Research.
